It’s been a long time since I’ve posted something on our beloved Parfois. But this doesn’t mean we’ve stopped promoting it. During workshop week at St.- Lucas school of arts in Antwerp this nice font was displayed. The workshops where all quite interesting, the presentations just a little tiring. As a master-project I am organizing a competition round the Cathedral of Antwerp. In this concept architecture and sculpture gets merged together. The assignment embodies the disarming question: Design a second tower for the Cathedral of Antwerp. The given fact of a missing element in an existing structure and city-layout inspires to an autonomic completion for everybody. By organizing a competition or international brainstorm I would like to put the emphasis on the absence and by doing so emphasize the Cathedral itself. The contestants receive a picture of the Cathedral where they realize their design in a sort of overlay. I don’t want to exclude anybody, it will be a truly open competition. The results can be a 3D render, a ruff concept or a simple black marker drawing. The design can vary from inflatable structures to melted towers. I am communicating to all major European universities in the departements of Architecture, Graphic design and Visual Arts and true a large international cultural work-field. A selection of submissions will be exposed in a traveling exhibition and they will all be published (in the extend of the realizable). This publication wil showcase a big diversity of filled in absence and will function again as source of inspiration.

Simplicity is the best . At Design Reactor, a Berlin based office, they understand this concept very well. Probably allot of you had great ideas like this one time or the other, but these guy’s actually produce them. Very innovative, humoristic and nicely designed. I love them.

Mathieu Lehanneur is a fantastic designer, inventor,.. and lots more. His work varies from interior designs to pils and robots. His designs are functional and flawless a great merge between aesthetics and concept. In this post I’ve tried to compile his most famous designs. On the first look they probably don’t say anything, on his website u can find the explanations. But maybe u can find it out by just looking at the visual images themselves.

Most of us will know Gretchen Nash from the clips she made on MTV. She is one of those new designers who uses 3D objects as graphic material. This project is a nice way to display something boring. Some other nice projects u can find on her site and after read more.

Patternfoundry.com is an online pattern database. These patterns are made by different designers from all over the world. The big difference with this database and other similar pattern databases is that this one contains nice ones. A big reason why I’m posting this is my preference for patterns, and I would love to see this website grow. So go and check it out!

Meindbender is a Swiss based animation studio. Their animations are all completely rendered so no stop motion. Very humoristic movies with a focus on expression. U can watch al the movies they did for cartoon network here.

Michael Marcovici is an amazing guy who had an extraordinary life so far. He quit school when he was 17 and started his first own company in the finance field, he sold his first business when he was 23, he started a side business on eBay that eventually became the world’s largest power-selling enterprise on eBay with a turnover of 30 million euro’s a year. U really have to read his biography on his website. His artwork is conceptual and loaded with political and sociological meanings. Also his interests in finances and technology is visible in his works. Interesting guy, worth checking.
