About Parfois

If it was up to us, all the best design in the world would be posted within the Parfois Portfolio. But it's not up to us. Stumbling the web we often bump into things worth sharing. The world wide web is so full off great things that will never end up in our portfolio, but which we want the world to see. For this we created our blog. At this moment there are 4 of us blogging on a regular basis. Work, studies and social life makes that there are weeks with a lot of posts, and weeks without. But we'll do our best in bringing you the nicest shit on a acceptable basis.

Jonas Blondeel

When I was young, I always liked to make things. Using my hands to create objects or repair things. When I got older I realised that studying wasn't really my thing. So in my 3th year of secondary school I started illustrative and architectural design. Leaning more towards the architectural side, I chose this direction during the 5th and 6th year. My goal was to go and study product development after graduating secondary school, but as you know, studying wasn't my thing. So I chose a slightly easier aproach where I still was able to work creative but with less theory. I started an education called Interior and Design. In the second year we had to chose between Furniture design or Construction, an easy choice. After these three very interesting years I wasn't willing to start working yet, so I started a one year education, called advanced Furniture Design. An amazing year on many levels! Right now I'm settled as independent and working for Costudio, an interior architecture company where I mainly design the furniture and other small projects. Besides this, I still try to design and make furniture on my own and of course, make Parfois world famous!

Nazroo, a mahout elephant driver, poses for a portrait while taking his elephant, Rajan, out for a swim in front of Radha Nagar Beach in Havelock, Andaman Islands. Rajan is one of the few elephants in Havelock that can swim, so when he is not dragging timber in the forest he is used as a tourist attraction. The relationship between the mahout and his elephant usually lasts for their entire lives, creating an extremely strong tie between the animal and the human being. Photo and caption by Cesare Naldi

you-are-here_750

I ran across this studio, they have some interesting projects. The essence of the creative studio Cabracega relies on the daily experiences. From the everyday analysis new ideas rise that question and add a different meaning to spaces, services, rituals and objects, thus creating innovative experiences that transform observers into participants.

The project above is called ‘YOU ARE HERE’, A geographical/spatial symbol.

Christopher Monro DeLorenzo – Picture Keyboard

14.11.09

Keyboard_new1

A nice idea from a nice artist. New York based Christopher explains the thinking behind the project: We used to learn our alphabets by reading those classroom banners that associated each letter with an animal or object. These days as kids become increasingly computer dependent at an early age I thought it was about time to adapt an old method to a new medium.
From cultural icons to greek mythology, this keyboard sticker set will advance the alphabetical knowledge of any child, or adult. Be sure to check his website for some other great projects. >> Read more

chiharu shiota

fawa

We’ve made a blog-post about this artist before, but she has made some more interesting work you really should see. Chiharu Shiota, born in Osaka in 1972, has been living since 1999 in Berlin. In performances and installations she is preoccupied with remembrance and oblivion. Earth and water recall the lasting and the fleeting. There is a concern with drifting between the cultures of Asia and Europe as also with a farewell to childhood. >> Read more
