Born in 1984, I knew already very early that with your eyes closed, you see nothing, so from that moment on, I started reading. On the age of 16 I read 15 magazines per month. The interest in design and art came with my education. I try to follow as much as I can the movements in art and design. Maybe a little more in art than in design, this because I am an artist/painter for profession.

atelier venti dieci

09.06.10

I met Bram De Ceurt a couple of weeks ago by one of the very newest ways to meet people… facebook… Maybe not the best way and I prefer a pub or a party to meet people but the point is that we met. I had a look at his website www.bramdeceurt.be He is photographer and painter and searches with both media for the erotic aspect of life.

I saw the work of Steve Locatelli for the first time a month ago at Artspace Leguit in Antwerp. For me, his artworks blew the work of other artists at that expo away. His colors are very brisk and his lines are very well placed. He knows what he wants and how to get it. http://www.locatellisteve.com >> Read more

“KEXPO” – Kevin Toelen

06.06.10

Today I went to the expo of Kevin Toelen at the old bakery in my hometown Boechout. Kevin has painted the whole interior of the bakery from the front to the back and from the bottom to the top. Sad to know that this will al be gone after two years when this building will be destroyed. But this is all part of the plan so Kevin told me. So enjoy the pictures and maybe when you find the time,  come to Boechout en check it out! >> Read more

Gitte Le Bruyn

21.01.10

Gitte Le Bruyn,¬†24 Years old and an artist of the kind I like! You can see in her work¬†that she is a real working-horse.¬†When you take a better look at the paintings,¬†you see a lot of different materials and methods used. (Don’t forget the sizes of¬†most paintings she made, there really big). On this young age she has¬†control over the canvas and the paint,¬†like I haven’t seen a lot before.¬†You can definitely¬†tell that she is well educated… and¬†in her case I don’t mind…¬†This year she won the “Prijs Frans Dille”, this Belgium based competition is hold once in the three years, and it targets students and graduees. I’m shure¬†this won’t be the last price she wins.¬†Go check her website. Read on for some more work.

Today I saw on this website; a very interesting artist, his name; ‘James Reynolds’.

On telegraph.co.uk, there was an article about his work he made about the last suppers, asked by death row prisoners.

I find these pictures very honest and they give me stuff to think about.

On his website, I saw a lot more interesting works.

Please take a look at his website, you will see what I mean.

Why paintings succeed where words fail

Belgian artist Luc Tuymans talks to us on the eve of exhibitions in Europe, Russia and the US

Luc Tuymans has painted figurative works since the mid 1980s and few artists can be as closely identified with a particular palette. His taste for mouldy pastels, cool greys and dead plaster white make for blurred, obtuse images. This reductive colour scheme represents the elusive nature of history and memory, reflecting the artist’s belief that representation can only be partial and subjective. Loaded political themes are developed in seemingly tangential ways with the Holocaust, Belgium’s controversial role in post-colonial Congo (the influential “Mwana Kitoko: Beautiful White Man” series which was shown at the 2001 Venice Biennale) and the US response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks given an oblique, fragmented treatment.
