If it was up to us, all the best design in the world would be posted within the Parfois Portfolio… But… its not up to us. Stumbling the web we often bump into things worth sharing. The world wide web is so full off great things that will never end up in our portfolio, but which we want the world to see. For this we created our blog. At this moment there 4 of us blogging on a regular basis.Work, studies and social life makes that there are weeks with a lot of posts, and weeks without. But we’ll do our best in bringing you the nicest shit on a acceptable basis.
Today I went to the expo of Kevin Toelen at the old bakery in my hometown Boechout. Kevin has painted the whole interior of the bakery from the front to the back and from the bottom to the top. Sad to know that this will al be gone after two years when this building will be destroyed. But this is all part of the plan so Kevin told me. So enjoy the pictures and maybe when you find the time, come to Boechout en check it out! >> Read more
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted something on our beloved Parfois. But this doesn’t mean we’ve stopped promoting it. During workshop week at St.- Lucas school of arts in Antwerp this nice font was displayed. The workshops where all quite interesting, the presentations just a little tiring. Very nice idea from Istanbul based designer Beste Miray. Strange that it hasn’t been done before, but I’ve never seen it. Only thing is, you have to fold you envelopes your self from now. Read on to see the rest of the images.
Most of us will know Gretchen Nash from the clips she made on MTV. She is one of those new designers who uses 3D objects as graphic material. This project is a nice way to display something boring. Some other nice projects u can find on her site and after read more.
Patternfoundry.com is an online pattern database. These patterns are made by different designers from all over the world. The big difference with this database and other similar pattern databases is that this one contains nice ones. A big reason why I’m posting this is my preference for patterns, and I would love to see this website grow. So go and check it out!
“Het klokhuis” is the longest running dutch tv show for children. They explain how things work and give information about all kinds of things, from how a computer works to why zebras have stripes. Design agency Kesselskramer got the assignment to make the opening sequence and end sequence. I saw some lectures from Kessels Kramer himself and I have to say, they’re good! I’ll write a post about him next week. In this animation they use 3D printing and they are the first ever to do so. The opening movie is shown above and the end sequence with some pictures of the making of is at read more.
Caroline Benech,¬∞1980,¬†is a young French artist with, in my opinion, a very nice style. I love the way she uses pictures of city skylines and ads a lot of creativity to them. Sometimes its just a detail, in other work she painted the whole city with bight colors. Caroline gave this series the well chosen name: “A living artwork”. While for most of us there just adjusted pictures, Caroline has a lot more to tell about her work. Read on for the complete living city serie, and her inner meaning.
After the ready mades of Marcel Duchamps, Fwis releases their readymech’s (a clear link is the middle character in the top line with R. Mutt on his arm). On the readymech site u can download all the unfolded versions of their characters in PDF format and start folding.
What Type Are You? A question that can mean a lot of different things. For seven years a team of 23 researchers have studied human types and linked them to typefaces (fonts). It is commonly know that typefaces reflect the character of the person using them, and that type choice, as well as the words that are typed, is a powerful conveyor of meaning. Pentagram made an online flash application which helps you discover your typeface. At there website they claim your questions are analysed in exceptional detail, which maybe is a bit excessive because there are only 4 questions and each question has 2 possible answers. But it still is a nice thing to do.
Want to find you What Type You Are? Go to the What Type Are You application. Curious which type I am? Click the read more button.
21 years, thats the time Matthew Lyons is walking around on earth. His images look old and perfectly thought true. If I didn’t knew his age from the blog I’ve found him on, I would say he’s a graphic designer with 20+ years experience, but he ain’t. He’s just a talented twenty-something¬†with a bright future ahead. I couldn’t find much information about him, the only thing I know is that he is in his final year of an illustration and animation course at Loughborough University England. Read on for more pictures.
