If it was up to us, all the best design in the world would be posted within the Parfois Portfolio… But… its not up to us. Stumbling the web we often bump into things worth sharing. The world wide web is so full off great things that will never end up in our portfolio, but which we want the world to see. For this we created our blog. At this moment there 4 of us blogging on a regular basis.Work, studies and social life makes that there are weeks with a lot of posts, and weeks without. But we’ll do our best in bringing you the nicest shit on a acceptable basis.
Next artist to undress: Nick Gentry. Nick Lives in Camden and works in Dalston, East London. I first came across Nick Gentry’s work a couple of months ago. From the moment I saw it, I liked it. The way he not only reuses old media, but also gives it an important place in is work (metal center of a floppy disk as eyes) is something I think is beautiful. Two days ago I decided to make Nick my next victim to undress. As I searched the web there was not to much information I could find. A small about on his website and a lot of images on different blogs. To undress him I needed more, so I wrote him an email with some questions about his work and he was so kind to write me back. Click the read more button for the interview and some more work.
Cameron Moll has his own way of changing letters into art. He uses thousands different letters, in all kind of typefaces. First the example is made on the computer, but the final result is done by hand. His last project was the Salt Lake Temple, in roughly a 100 hours he made it. And now he is working on a new project. The Rome based colosseum. Read one to see a sneek preview movie about his new project. And more pictures of the Salt Lake Temple.
What Type Are You? A question that can mean a lot of different things. For seven years a team of 23 researchers have studied human types and linked them to typefaces (fonts). It is commonly know that typefaces reflect the character of the person using them, and that type choice, as well as the words that are typed, is a powerful conveyor of meaning. Pentagram made an online flash application which helps you discover your typeface. At there website they claim your questions are analysed in exceptional detail, which maybe is a bit excessive because there are only 4 questions and each question has 2 possible answers. But it still is a nice thing to do.
Want to find you What Type You Are? Go to the What Type Are You application. Curious which type I am? Click the read more button.
We have spoken about Banksy a couple of times, here, and here. Today some websites report that there will be a movie featuring, or made by Banksy. Information about the movie is rather scarce, but if you click the read more button, you can watch the trailer.
Gitte Le Bruyn,¬†24 Years old and an artist of the kind I like! You can see in her work¬†that she is a real working-horse.¬†When you take a better look at the paintings,¬†you see a lot of different materials and methods used. (Don’t forget the sizes of¬†most paintings she made, there really big). On this young age she has¬†control over the canvas and the paint,¬†like I haven’t seen a lot before.¬†You can definitely¬†tell that she is well educated… and¬†in her case I don’t mind…¬†This year she won the “Prijs Frans Dille”, this Belgium based competition is hold once in the three years, and it targets students and graduees. I’m shure¬†this won’t be the last price she wins.¬†Go check her website. Read on for some more work.
I don’t know if anybody has noticed lately. But It’s cold outside. Belgium is cold, Antwerp is cold, I’m Cold.
Anyway, Parfois’ still up and running. The Expo of the Antwerp Astronauts (with two members of parfois) is at its last week.¬†So far so good, we’ve met a lot of interesting people, made good contacts and are even selling some stuff!¬†If you still haven’t had time to drop by, maybe this small Gif about the Moon Lounge will get u warm.¬†I’ll write a full post about this chair when we have some more pictures.
Ron English is the first artist to be discussed in the Parfois Undressed section. From today we are going to undress several artists. We start with our personal favorites. Trying to explain why we like them, and what makes them special for us. So we kick off with Ron English, read on for my story, more pictures, and even a song.
Past Tuesday the exhibition “Antwerp Astronauts” opened its doors. With just a tiny rush towards opening hours the setup went smoothly (thanks to the helping hands). All furniture and installations got their place, the paintings went on the walls and the champagne got poured out. Thanks everybody for dropping¬†by and if u haven’t seen it or want to stop by again, the exposition is still open to the public till the 17th of January. Click here for more information. Some pics.. read more.
Bram Kinsbergen and two members of Parfois, Pieterjan & Jonas, started a new collective. Under the name of the ‘Antwerp Astronauts‘ they combine their powers “¬†to search the galaxy¬†for unanswered questions about the concepts of design and art.” Their first exhibition starts next Tuesday at the Rivierenhof in Antwerp, where they will be showing painting, drawings, furniture and some installations. For those who ¬†can’t make it, we’ll put some pictures and updates online soon!
