It is a place to discover young and inventive designers, where second-hand trophies will be sold, there while excellent sound amuses you trying on fashionable clothes and drink your coffee at leisure. All in all, Cash For Trash is a trend-setting event. With Cash For Trash, a market place has been created where way-out ideas can find a presentation and talented designers, local shop holders, and artists can show and sell their special products. With a careful selection procedure of the presenters and sellers, we always guarantee attractive offers in the three areas of second-hand, vintage and design. Send us a detailed description and one to three pictures of your products,which you would like to sell at the market per e-mail. Please reduce your presentation to one page (max 800kb) or send us your website-link. A vending booth at the Cash For Trash costs 1000 SEK for 2.5m2 (1.80m x 1.40m) including a table (size 1.80m x 0.8m).

Follow thursday (March 24th, 2011), the famous Swedish school Hyper Island will host a meetup in Amsterdam at the offices of Sid Lee. The school added some new programs since last year, which they now promote around the world. The meetup covers an introduction to Hyper Island and which programs they offer and how you should apply. It will give you a sense how students work, and what kind of methodology they follow, and of course there will be plenty of time to asks questions to Hyper students and alumni.

So if you’re interested in Hyper Island, and want to learn more about the school, make sure you RSVP. The event is no recruitment event, so there’s no need for a portfolio or interviews. It’s more an introduction of Hyper Island to you.

As the concept of  urban farming is getting bigger and more and more well spread, some lectures and events appear. The past weekend we visited one of them here in Berlin. Zeillen, life science – Urban farming was located in more places across Berlin. A big vegetable garden was constructed with the  help of lots of volunteers, a theatre filled with plants and vegetables, …  Lectures took place in the middle of it. To go short, a lot of interesting stuff taking place with the upcoming of urban farming as a concept or as a project. Maybe u heard about it, maybe u didn’t. Pecha Kucha nights are organized all over the world. Pecha Kucha organizes a lot of lectures in one night in one city, each lecture takes only 400 seconds. A great initiative and really fun to do. Coincidentally a part of the parfois crew was in Thessaloniki (Greece) at the right time to visit one. (u can even spot the parfois team in the video) So Keep an eye out for any Pecha Kucha in tour area!!

This post might be a bit to personal, but I had to share these extremely nice shoes with all of you. I was looking around at¬†Fubiz, our much bigger french colleague blog and he wrote about them. As I’m looking for shoes for ages now, it was such a relief to finally find a pair I really like. Finding them at an online store was not the easiest job, but after 15min I ordered these beautifully white high shoes. There manufactured by Supra, and they are part of there new Spring Collection. Personally I had never heard of this brand, but now I’m the proud owner of my ¬†first pair of Supra shoes, the Skytop II. Read on for more pictures. I bought the white ones. The world is full of smart people, doing all kinds of smart things. That’s smart! Well, we’re with STUPID. Stupid is the relentless pursuit of a regret free life. Smart may have the brains. But stupid has the balls. Smart recognizes things for how they are, stupid sees things for how they could be. Smart critiques, stupid creates. The fact is, if we didn’t have stupid thoughts, we have no interesting thoughts at all! Smart may have the plans… Stupid has the stories. Smart may have authority, but stupid has one hell of a hangover. It’s not smart to take risks, it’s stupid. To be stupid is to be brave! Stupid isn’t afraid to fail. Stupid knows there are worse things than failure… Like not even trying! Smart had one good idea, and that idea was stupid. You can’t outsmart stupid. So don’t even try! Remember, only stupid can be really brilliant. So, BE STUPID!

Ron English is the first artist to be discussed in the Parfois Undressed section. From today we are going to undress several artists. We start with our personal favorites. Trying to explain why we like them, and what makes them special for us. So we kick off with Ron English, read on for my story, more pictures, and even a song.

Ron English is a contemporary pop artist who explores popular brand

imagery and advertising. He is know for his Billboard Bombing,

replacing existing campaigns with his own art that very often uses tactics of advertising to attack the products themselves in order to encourage free thought.¬†Frequent targets of his work include Joe Camel, McDonals and Mickey Mouse. Ron English is considered one of the the fathers of modern street art and has initiated and participated in illegal public art campaigns since the early eighties. Some of his extralegal murals include one on the Berlin Wall’s Checkpoint Charlie in 1989 and on on the Palestinian separation wall in the West Bank in 2007, with fellow street artists Banksy and Swoon.

English was born in 1966 in Dallas, Texas. He has exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide for over twenty years, influencing a generation of artists and art lovers with his unique sensibility, in which the familiar is reflected through funhouse mirrors into something disconcertingly new. His commentary and art were featured in the movie “Supersize Me,” widening his audience beyond the boundaries of intrepid art seekers. Ron English was also the subject of award-winning documentary “POPaganda, the Art and Crimes of Ron English”.

Mr. English has worked across the visual arts spectrum, from vinyl sculpture to billboards and oil painting. Whereas most artists can be classified as either conceptual or visceral, Ron English is both, having achieved mastery of the physical medium even as his conceptual basis for painting has deepened into a refined distillation of socio-political observation, humor, and memory. Although his work is highly conceptual, English mothers every inch of the canvas, where each brushstroke is an artistic decision; the resulting humanity and warmth of the work stands as counterpoint to its idea-based origin.

Often using his children as models, and in particular his son as stand-in, English chronicles the soul’s sojourn through Pop dioramas of fear and appetite, aspiration and rage. While paying homage to the great art before him, English maintains his very personal point of view, transforming the public to intimate and the universal to specific. Using a mixture of imagery, medium and process referenced from great masters such as Warhol, Pollack and Picasso, combined with irreverent cherry-picking of populist totems from fast food to cartoons, English creates complex running narratives of his many alter-egos butting headfirst into the Grand Illusion, where unstated cultural norms are exposed and analyzed. This is art that processes the visual touchstones of modern culture into a questioning voice that demands dialog with the viewer on what it means to be alive right now.

Why Ron English?:

I Don’t know Mr. English for a long time, I came across his work in the Internet and I wen’t looking for some more information. What I like about his work is the use of bright colors, the sneering message he sends in the world, and the use of real life characters with an graphical touch. For me he is a huge artist, and in his long career he used several techniques and styles. Most of the time they became a inspiration to others. Also the childish atmosphere¬†in his images is something that catches me. Altho the meaning is bloody serious. It is not just “work”, he has something he wants to tell the world. ¬†My favorite painting is the one I used at the top of this post.
